New Japanese Animation Film Festival Opens in New York City

I learned a good deal about the amazing world of independent films for kids from attending the International Children’s Film Festivalin New York City when my sons were young. The founders of the festival were parents of a child in my older son’s kindergarten class and they introduced us to this very rich world. Beginning this week, there will be a first-ever retrospective of films from the noteworthy 15 Studio Ghibli (say GEE-buh-lee), the Japanese company best known for the work of the director and animator Hayao Miyazaki.

Films by the director and animator Hayao Miyazaki will be shown at IFC starting thjis week in NYC

Festival attendees will be treated to watching some of these little known films, produced from 1984-2009 on the big screen.
