Toy Fair Takes Over New York City

It’s that time of year again, when the annual American International Toy Fair–this year marks the 108th event at the humongous Jacob K. Javits Convention Center–takes over New York City, Having spent 6 years overseeing public relations for Toy Fair, seeing the newest playthings and youth entertainment products for the next holiday season—toys introduced this week and next will be in stores in the fall and winter of 2011—is still very exciting for me. During that part of my career, my sons, Jacob and Ben so enjoyed visiting me at work as my office was like a toy store. They would not only get to see and play with the latest toys, some before they were out on the market, but when there was a special publicity event, they would get to be on camera. Jacob got to showcase his juggling finesse at the annual Toy of the Year (TOTY) awards a few times. One of my favorite memories is the year he told me that a man named “Jerry” approached him at the TOTYs, to talk to him about juggling. Turned out that he was quite the juggler himself…and it also turned out that “Jerry” was non other than Jerry Storch, CEO of Toys “R” Us! In any case, back to the present—I will be posting about the newest toys and playthings as I see them starting today.
